Press release Landings July 18 – Aug 10
Dan Starling / Leander Djønne / Dan Rees

Landings is pleased to announce three solo presentations opening on July 18th

Landings/ 1 will feature Dan Starling’s first solo presentation in Europe. Starling will premiere his most recent work: Ultimate Fighting Championship, Cologne, Germany, June 13, 2009, 2009, a single channel video covering the recent UFC event in Cologne, the first of its kind in continental Europe. Starling takes on the persona of a reporter to deliver a review of the show in German, a language in which he has little proficiency. The review critically considers the large cultural and aesthetic implications of the UFC; in stark contrast to the spectacular footage of the fighting.

Starling’s interdisciplinary practice investigates the construction of narrative, reality and fiction. By juxtaposing a number of incongruous references from literature, media and popular culture, Starling renders them absurdly united. He graduated from Emily Carr University in 2005 and also studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He recently participated in the 2009 Advanced Course in Visual Arts, Ratti Foundation, Italy.

Dan Starling (1979, Canada) lives and works in Vancouver.
